Sondai Fort Trek – Perfect Beginners Trek from Mumbai & Pune

Sondai Fort trek is a perfect trek for beginners or individuals who have not embarked on a trek in years. Easy to reach from Karjat, just about 9kms from the railway station, this is one of the ideal beginner-friendly treks to explore the breathtaking views of the Sahyadri mountain range. The best time to undertake Sondai Fort Trek is definitely in the monsoon season when you can catch the lush greens and the waterfalls, but this trek can be taken throughout the year.

Sondai Fort, Karjat
Sondai Qilla

The base village to start this trek is Sondewadi. It is easily accessible via road and takes approximately 30-40 minutes from Karjat railway station. This was my first trek after almost four years and the first ever planned trek from experts – T Trikon. Here is my unbiased review of trekking to Sondai Fort with T Trikon.

Assembling at Karjat Railway Station by 8 Am

It is a day trek, and as per the planned itinerary shared by the experts at T Trikon, we reached the Karjat railway station by 8 am. The train timings for CST-bound fast trains to Karjat were shared by the team. From the railway station, we, comprising eight participants from mid-20s to late 40s, met our trek captain – Mr. Yash Kadam, a young man in his early 20s brimming with immense knowledge and stories of his career as a traveler. He kept us amused and entertained for most of the journey and the trek.

In a taxi arranged by T Trikon, we covered the half-hour journey to Sondewadi base village, where we took a halt at a peaceful village home for breakfast. We were served hot poha and chai, and the food was delicious. After our restroom break in hygienic washrooms, some of us changed into their trek shoes and were ready for the hike. By 10 am, we started our ascent in the hot, scorching sun. The temperature was high, but the coolness was balanced by our team of enthusiastic trekkers and the trek group leader.

The Sondai Fort Trek Ascend Begins

The fort is located at a height of 1200 ft above sea level. From the base village Sondewadi to the top, the distance is approximately 2 kms, and ideally, it takes just 2 to 2.5 hours to complete the trek to and fro. However, that’s for people who often trek. Although the level of the Sondai fort trek is not difficult, it took me some time getting used to the ascent.

Sondai trek

There are stops in between as you reach the first plateau. Finally, some shade to fill your lungs and courage to begin again. The second part of the trek takes you through a forest. This bit had a few rocks that were still manageable to climb in the hot weather, but in the monsoon, it would definitely be a bit challenging. The final phase of the trail may appear the easiest from a distance, but you must climb two sets of staircases before reaching the top.

Sondai fort staircase

The view along the way is mesmerizing, despite it being the scorching summer season. As you carefully traverse the trail, remember to stop and breathe in the view.  Having trekked Karnala and Shivneri forts in the past, I anticipated encountering a similar fort structure at the top. However, I found a small temple and a few flags, which still evoked a fort-like ambiance.

Sondai Mata Temple

Despite the absence of a fort, the breathtaking view compensated for any disappointment. From atop, one can enjoy panoramic views of Morbe Dam and Prabalgad. However, beware of the monkeys that inhabit the area.

Sondai Fort trekking experience

The ascents might leave you breathless, but the descents demand total awareness, bringing you to a state of being present in the moment. That’s why it’s often said that while trekking, it’s not the mountain that you conquer, but your inner self. My experience of trekking to Sondai Fort was refreshing and memorable. From the outset to the numerous halts in between, and the refreshing lemon water during the descent, everything felt soul-soothing.

Rest stops at Sondai trek
Final leg before reaching the top of Sondai Fort

It was a welcome break from the daily grind. The itinerary planned by T Trikon was commendable as well. The sumptuous meal that awaited us post-trek added even more stars to our experience. The local village food was authentic and satisfying. I opted for the non-vegetarian meal, which included bhakri, dry chicken, rassa, and rice. However, the vegetarian meal was equally delicious.

After the meal, we rested at the village house for an hour and left for Karjat railway station at 4 pm. By 6 pm, we arrived back in Thane. The 12 hours in between were a revelation, inspiring me to embark on more treks and conquer greater heights, both externally and internally.

I want to express my gratitude to my yoga teacher, who inspired me to undertake this journey. Hopefully, I will go on more such treks this year.

Xeno Play Space Ghatkopar
A kids indoor play space in Mumbai.

Indoor play area in Mumbai have grown in numbers, especially after malls came into being. From Funky Monkey, Baccha Party, and Hakuna Matata to Xeno’s play space, there are several kids’ play spaces in Mumbai. Recently, I, along with my little one, visited the most unique of them, hence I am dedicating a blog to it. Xeno’s play space in Ghatkopar East is unlike any other indoor play area I have visited in Mumbai. For starters, it is a huge play space with lots of activities not only for kids but also for adults.

Xeno- Indoor play area Mumbai
Xeno’s play space in Ghatkopar, Mumbai

Yes, you read that correctly! There are several games tailored for adults to unwind and enjoy alongside their little ones. This aspect alone makes me eager to revisit this play zone with my child.

Why you should visit Xeno Play Space Ghatkopar?

  • One of the largest play spaces in Mumbai.
  • Offers new-age, unique games such as Space Ninja, space blocks, sand zone, trampolines, huge slides with massive ball pools, balloon attack, wall climbing, etc.
  • Parents can also enjoy and explore most games, which made me so happy. I can’t count the number of times I took the huge slide and rolled into the ball pool.
  • The party café serves sumptuous meal options. The Chole Bhature I relished here makes me want to visit this café again.
  • Emphasizes safety and well-being. All the games and rides are safe, and the staff ensures extra care too.

Indoor play area in Mumbai – Review

For mothers, this indoor play area in Ghatkopar offers an ideal setting to catch up with friends while the children engage in several fun and educational activities. Additionally, it provides an excellent setup for celebrating kids’ birthdays.

When entering the premises, it’s essential to wear socks; however, if you forget to bring a pair, they are available for purchase at a nominal rate. The play zone maintains high standards of cleanliness and hygiene, with well-maintained washroom facilities.

I recently attended a birthday party at this venue, and it was truly fantastic. The food, from starters to the main course, was a hit with both kids and adults alike. Furthermore, the host who conducted the games did an excellent job, adding to the overall enjoyment of the event. You can customize activities for birthday party as well. From magic show, games to tattoo artist, they have an exhaustive list, each varies in charges. The mascot Xeno kicks off the birthday celebration in style.

Meher Retreat Pune is an ideal one-day picnic spot ,

Meher Retreat Pune is a 27-acre agri-tourism resort located about 45 km from Pune. It is an ideal one-day picnic spot that offers a perfect blend of relaxation and recreational activities. On a beautiful December morning, amidst wonderful weather, we visited the retreat and had such a memorable time. This time, the group was extensive, ranging from 3 years to 70 years of age. It is fair to say that every age group had a gala time here. It was a special occasion for us as it was the birthday of the smallest member in our family. To make it memorable, we booked online tickets to visit this one-day picnic spot near Pune.

Meher Retreat Pune Review

We visited this one-day picnic spot near Pune on a Sunday, and it was quite crowded. Fortunately, there’s ample parking facility, so that wasn’t a concern. The entry process is smooth as well; you can book your tickets online, and they provide bands as you enter the premises.

The first thing most families do after entering is head to the breakfast buffet. It includes Misal Bread, Shira, Poha, Tea, and Coffee. The food is delicious, and with numerous counters, our 10-member group didn’t have to stand in queues.

Meher-Retreat-Dining

However, post-meal, all we encountered were queues. There are many activities to enjoy at this nature retreat in Pune, but be prepared to patiently wait in line. It is advisable to wear sports shoes and get ready to join the queue

Activities at Meher Retreat Pune

The first activity we enjoyed was the tractor ride. Despite the long queue, the wait was worthwhile. The tractor took us through the farm, and the bumpy ride added to its memorable charm. Here’s a list of all the activities we enjoyed.

  • Tractor Ride
  • Bullock cart ride
  • Pedal Boating
  • Pet Zoo (featuring rabbits, ducks, and birds).
  • Swimming pool – Oh god the crowd was intimidating.
  • Rain Dance (Thankfully, we encountered less crowd here) – don’t forget to catch the spectrum of colors while in the rain dance zone.
  • Cycling
  • Pottery making (it’s a chargeable activity but our little ones enjoyed it the most)
  • Magic shows (The one near the pottery making area was brilliant). However, the other show in the big hall was not much enjoyed by our little ones.
Rainbow-spectrum-colors-meher-retreat
At Meher retreat Pune rainbow spectrum of colors can be seen at several places.

In between activities and the magic show, we relished our lunch, which comprised Maharashtrian vegetarian cuisine. It was not only delicious but also filling. The buffet-style meal tended to make everyone a bit sluggish by the afternoon. None of us felt the need to attend the high tea. The lethargy that set in after the meal was on another level. Wisely, they provide charpai beds for people to take a nap and relax in nature, listening to the soothing sounds of birds.

Complementary Hurda Party

This was my first time attending a Hurda party, and it turned out to be so much fun. If you plan to visit during the Hurda season between November and February, make sure to indulge in the Hurda party at Meher Retreat Pune. Hurda, a tiny and green grain, offers a unique taste experience. The roasted Hurda or jowar grains were both crunchy and juicy. They also serve various other items like boiled corn, sweet jaggery, etc., appealing to different taste buds.

And, before leaving the retreat, don’t forget to explore and shop for fresh farm products.

Conclusion

Meher Retreat stands as an ideal one-day picnic spot near Pune, Maharashtra, offering a delightful break from the hectic city life. With its diverse activities and serene ambiance, it’s totally worth visiting with your family or friends. The only downside I observed was the hygiene in the washrooms. Unfortunately, the changing rooms and washrooms were not well-maintained. However, apart from that, the place is wonderful and well-managed. There are many opportunities to click wonderful pictures.

Weekend Trip To Silvassa: All You Need To Know

0
Trip to Silvassa - All you need to know
Plan your weekend trip to Silvassa

A trip to Silvassa during a long weekend is a safe bet, especially if you are a Mumbaikar. Instead of heading to popular destinations like Igatpuri, Lonavala, Karjat, and the like, we chose Silvassa for this long Christmas weekend, and it turned out to be a good decision. Barring some traffic on the Western Express Highway, the journey was smooth.

Lion Safari - Silvassa
Lion Safari – Silvassa

Silvassa is the largest city in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and is popular for its wildlife sanctuaries. It is also close to beaches. The best part is its proximity to Mumbai, lying between the Maharashtra and Gujarat border.

‘Welcome to the smart city Silvassa’ is what you will see on buses and banners. There’s a lot of construction work happening — roads and buildings — so all I observed were dusty roads lined by even dustier local shops selling winter clothes. It is described as a city blessed with an abundance of nature, which I witnessed at the beautiful gardens.

In this blog post, I will share the top places to visit in Silvassa and the best Silvassa resort to plan your long weekend getaway.

Which is best time to visit Silvassa?

The best time to visit Silvassa is during winters, between September and February. The climate in Silvassa during the month of December is pleasant, a little colder than Mumbai. So, pack accordingly.

Top places to visit during your trip to Silvassa

Silvassa Vasona Lion Safari Park

A jungle safari with a 100% chance of sighting a lion—yes, that’s Silvassa Vasona Lion Safari Park. The park is open every day of the week, except Monday. There’s a nominal entry fee for the safari. Unlike other zoos or parks where the animals are caged, at this park, they place us in caged buses and take us into the jungle. We spotted one lion and two lionesses. The safari tour was just 10 minutes, but sighting the king of the jungle made the wait worthwhile.

There was a huge line to get into the buses, and after a long wait when we did enter one, the bus broke down. We were then shifted to another bus which rushed past the lions, who were stationary at their spot. I wonder how they manage to make these huge beasts stay at one spot, and that too close to the entry gate.

Lion Safari Vasona

Friendly tip – Google Maps shows two locations for this destination. Confirm the correct one before you set out.”

Vanganga Lake Garden

A beautiful and well-maintained garden, Vanganga Lake Garden has a nominal entry fee, and it sprawls across seven hectares of land. The garden features wonderful play areas for kids and a hanging bridge where you can capture beautiful pictures. It’s best to visit the garden around sunset so that you don’t miss the sound and light show against the backdrop of scenic lake views. The show starts at 7 pm sharp and lasts for half an hour.

I could have never imagined such a mesmerizing show in a garden in Silvassa. If you want to experience boating in Silvassa, this is the place where you can enjoy the activity.

Satmaliya Sanctuary-Deer Park

Located in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, this is another wildlife sanctuary to explore. The Satmaliya Sanctuary Deer Park bus ride ticket price is Rs. 25 per adult. Like the lion safari, buses operate inside the forest where you can spot sambar deer and spotted deer.

Satmaliya Sanctuary-Deer Park
Satmaliya Sanctuary Deer Park

Sadly, we couldn’t take this bus ride as the crowd was huge, and the waiting time to get into the bus was more than an hour. Plan your day trip to Silvassa so that you visit this park before the lion park. The distance between both parks is not more than 15 minutes.

Nakshatra Garden, Silvassa

As the name suggests, this is an astro-themed garden displaying a variety of trees and plants. It is a vast garden that offers dedicated playing zones for kids. Besides, you can find several medicinal herbs in this garden. The park is open every day of the week, from 7 in the morning to 7 in the evening. There are beautiful walking paths lined with several flowering plants.

Nakshatra Garden, Silvassa

Dudhni lake

For water sports enthusiasts, a visit to the serene Dudhni Lake is a must. In our short trip, we couldn’t explore this place, but it comes across as an ideal spot for boating, kayaking, and the like.”

Best resort in Silvassa

We stayed at Wonderland Resort in Silvassa. Our package included a two-night stay with a free breakfast buffet at a cost of approximately Rs. 6500 per night (Rs. 900+GST extra for kid about 6 years). The resort is beautiful and well-maintained. However, the room service was not quick. The restaurant at the resort served good meals, but the prices were high. Imagine paying Rs. 50 for a mineral water bottle that costs Rs. 20.

Wonderland resort in Silvassa
Best resort in Silvassa

So, I have mixed reviews about the resort. While it had all the amenities, including a swimming pool and an indoor play area with table tennis, carrom, etc., I found it a bit overpriced. There are many luxury resorts in Silvassa, and it is best to research before booking your stay.

Is Silvassa worth a visit?

A trip to Silvassa is a must for the diverse landscape it offers, including wildlife sanctuaries, picturesque gardens, and wonderful lakes. With roads adorned in Warli art and walls displaying the same, I am sure that in a few years, this smart city will become a prominent tourist attraction.

So, if you’re wondering how many days are sufficient for Silvassa, I would say two days are enough to explore the city. However, if you plan to explore Moti Daman and Nani Daman forts, which are an hour’s drive from Silvassa, it is best to plan a three-day trip. Only after reaching here did we find out that there are many places you can explore nearby. Perhaps on some other long weekend, I will explore them!

Weekend Retreat at 3BHK Villa in Lonavala with Pool

Villa in Lonavala with Pool
Best Villa in Lonavala with Pool

Weekend retreats at Lonavala during winters have become a ritual for us. Although they come with their own set of challenges, as huge crowds head to this hill station close to Mumbai and Pune. Finding the right villa in Lonavala with pool is a daunting task. Sometimes the cost is too high, and most times the pictures on travel sites don’t match the property. This time around, we didn’t book our accommodation in advance and instead went with the flow. What we did end up getting was possibly the best one given the price.

After a mixed experience at Hotel Gautam Lonavala, a Rajasthani-themed palace resort located near the Lonavala bus stand, we decided to go for an independent villa. Here’s all you need to know about booking your stay at a luxurious 3BHK villa in Lonavala with a swimming pool.

Bhumi villa in Lonavala with Pool

Bhumi Villa is located in the popular area of Gold Valley, approximately 2 miles from Lonavala railway station. It is situated just behind the Radisson Resort & Spa Lonavala. The story of how we found this villa is interesting. We packed our bags and reached Lonavala around 2 pm. A friend in our group had shortlisted an Airbnb property but had not made a booking. Somehow, locating that property on Google Maps we reached the location. However, the villa listed on Airbnb was already booked. Fortunately, the caretaker led us to another property. Surpassing the GST that we had to otherwise bear for an Airbnb, we landed this property at a good deal – around 11k for the night (yay 😊).

Facilities at Bhumi Villa in Lonavala

  • Air-conditioned villa, not that you need AC in the winter. The climate was pleasant.
  • Three bedrooms
  • Four bathrooms
  • A furnished living room, with carrom board and music speaker
  • A fully equipped kitchen
  • Swimming pool
  • An enclosed terrace where you can enjoy dinner.
  • Free wi-fi
  • Parking
  • On-demand food, which was yummy and reasonable.

The Private Pool:

The major draw for us at this villa was the attached swimming pool. The luxury of having a private pool cannot be overstated. After a relaxing evening swim, we also enjoyed a morning splash in the pool. The kids were overjoyed playing in the 5-feet deep pool. It’s worth noting that there isn’t much space for walking, or a garden attached to this property.

Nearby attractions to Bhumi villa in Lonavala

The famous Tiger Point is located 8.7 miles from the villa. After our checkout, we visited Tiger Point, where the kids in our group enjoyed horse and camel rides. On the way to Tiger Point, you can make a stop at Bushi Dam. However, the best time to visit Bushi Dam is in monsoon. Additionally, within walking distance from the villa is Kune Waterfalls. Adlabs Imagica is also close by, approximately 15 miles away.

Conclusion:

Bhumi Villa is a comfortable and cozy property. The cleanliness of the place added an extra layer of satisfaction, especially considering our past experiences with hygiene issues in similar villas in Lonavala. My stay at the 3BHK villa in Lonavala with pool was a perfect blend of relaxation, luxury, and wonderful memories. Whether you are planning a celebration with family or a get-together with friends, Bhumi Villa is a great choice. Children Nutrition Park
Children Nutrition Park near Statue of Unity

Children Nutrition Park in Kevadiya, Gujarat, is the world’s first technology-driven theme park. The brainchild of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, it was started with the intent to inspire children to eat healthy food. The cute toy train Nutri Express covers various stations, allowing children to understand the importance of the right nutrition and how it can contribute to their mental and physical growth.

Children Nutrition Park - Entrance
Children Nutrition Park – Entrance

With so many attractions at the Statue of Unity, it was a bit challenging to convince my 8-year-old to go on this tour. But, trust me, she loved her visit and didn’t feel like leaving the park. It took us around 2.5 hours to complete the tour.

Location – 5.6 KM From SOU
Timings (Tuesday to Friday) – 10 AM to 6 PM
Timings (Saturday and Sunday) – 9 am to 9 pm
Tickets – Adult – ₹200, Child (3-15 Yrs.) – ₹125
Suitable For Family with Childrens

Five stations at Children Nutrition Park

There are five stations at this park, each filled with games and interactivity. The station names are unique, highlighting the specific nutrition topic they address. For instance, at the first station, the importance of eating seasonal fruits and vegetables is highlighted. To make it more interactive, there are games too. For example, the farming process game, where the child must first sow seeds (digitally), water them, provide sunlight, and complete the farming process. Each station has a beautiful, animated presentation on the topic, followed by an interactive game and a key takeaway.

1. Phalshaka Griham

The first station of Nutri Express is named Phalshaka Griham. As the name suggests, the station is all about promoting the importance of choosing the right fruits and vegetables according to the season. As you enter the premises, a video will begin with an Indian farmer as the central character. Through Kisaan Kumar, the importance of agriculture, the sowing process, and harvesting is explained.

2. PayoNagari

The next stop is PayoNagari. This station explains the importance of consuming milk and milk products. Animated character Janardhan informs children about how milk is sourced and the various vitamins it provides to our bodies. Interactive games, such as feeding the cow, reinforce the importance of milk consumption. The session concludes by explaining how milk is sourced from cows and the process through which it reaches our homes.

3. Annapurna

Between the second and third stations, we pass through the Fantasy Farm Tunnel or Experience Tunnel—a long, colorful passage displaying magnificent butterflies, fruits, flowers, and lights. The Annapurna station focuses on the importance of pulses. Upon entering the hall, children are greeted by a mother who welcomes them with a sweet lullaby kind of song, explaining how a mother works daily to provide nourishing meals to her children.

4. Poshan Puram

Between the third and fourth stations at the Children Nutrition Park, my daughter enjoyed various games at the game zone.

At the fourth station, the importance of nuts and water is explained by Shakti, an animated girl introducing herself as a sports captain. She emphasizes the significance of consuming dry fruits and highlights how water helps circulate nutrients through our bodies, considering that 70% of the human body is made up of water. She concludes with the message, ‘Jal hi Jeevan hai’ (Water is life). Following this is a beautiful presentation on water.

Next to it is the Bhul Bhulaiya cinema, where we sat in a theater, and an animated character took us on a tour across India, showcasing the diverse food and specialties.

5. Swastha Bharatam

The fifth station emphasizes the importance of exercise in daily life, showcasing the benefits of physical activity through yoga and sports to maintain good health.

Sit back and enjoy a full video tour of the Children Nutrition Park.

The Children Nutrition Park is a must-visit tourist attraction in Gujarat, especially if you are traveling with kids. It’s a first-of-its-kind park where the importance of good nutrition and healthy eating habits is reinforced. The thrill is added by the toy train ride that takes you from one station to another.
If you ever plan to visit the Statue of Unity, don’t miss a visit to the Children Nutrition Park.

My daughter enjoyed the visit here more than exploring the World’s Tallest Statue itself. You can buy tickets at the venue or online too. There are many attractions near the Statue of Unity. I hope you found this blog helpful. See you in the next blog post. Thanks for reading.

A day trip to Statue of Unity, Gujarat

Statue of Unity, Gujarat
Statue of Unity, Gujarat

The Statue of Unity (SOU) is the tallest statue in the world, standing at a height of 182 meters. Built as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as the Iron Man of India, this statue is one of the most visited tourist destinations in India. Located in the town of Kevadiya, the statue is situated on the banks of the Narmada River in Gujarat, near the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The statue is primarily made of bronze and weighs approximately 2,000 metric tons.

Statue of Unity, Gujarat
Statue of Unity, Gujarat

A visit to Gujarat is incomplete without exploring this iconic monument, although a single day may not be sufficient to fully experience all the attractions it offers. Nevertheless, let me share how you can make the most of your day exploring the Statue of Unity and its associated attractions.

How to reach the Statue of Unity?

The Statue of Unity is well-connected to most cities via roadways and airways. Vadodara Airport is the nearest airport, approximately 90 kilometers away. The closest railway station is Vadodara Junction, around 75 kilometers away. From there, you can hire a taxi or rent a car. We explored this place by our car. If you are traveling from Mumbai, it is best to travel by your own vehicle, which will take approximately 8 hours.

There are several accommodation options located close to this destination, ranging from luxury to budget hotels. We booked our stay at Club Mahindra Netrang, which is approximately 60 kilometers away from this place. It is advisable to book your accommodation online, especially if you plan to travel during the peak tourist season, which is from October to March. We visited this place during the monsoon, and luckily, the rains were not too heavy, allowing us to comfortably explore the vicinity.

SOU Tickets and Entry Timings:

It is advisable to book your entry tickets online to avoid queues at the ticket counters. To book your tickets, visit the website: https://www.soutickets.in/

The entry ticket for adults is Rs. 150, while for children, it is Rs. 75.

The Statue of Unity is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on all days of the week, except Mondays.

There are several parks and activities that you can explore here, and each has a different entry ticket. You can purchase tickets for various attractions at the venue or park itself. If you are traveling with a group and have kids with you, it is best to decide on the activities, parks, or attractions based on their interests.

Statue of Unity: Key Attractions

From the entry point, a complimentary bus service is available to transport you closer to the Statue. Alternatively, you can choose to hop into an e-rickshaw, which is operated by women drivers (empowering women!). However, there is a nominal, fixed fee for using the e-rickshaw service.

You must leave your baggage at the drop-off point as it is not allowed beyond this point. From this location itself, you can witness the immense size of this magnificent structure. When you get up close, you can observe the statue in detail. It is a well-organized tourist destination with food courts and other amenities. Initially, we explored the Statue of Unity and its museum. If you are planning a day trip to the Statue of Unity, you can explore two or a maximum of three attractions. We visited two parks.

Statue of Unity & Museum

The Statue of Unity is dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played a significant role in India’s independence. From 1947 to 1950, he served as the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of India. This tallest statue in the world standing at 182 meters, surpasses the earlier tallest statue of Buddha at the Spring Temple in China.

They have installed airport-like escalators to assist visitors in getting closer to the statue. However, one still needs to walk quite a bit to explore the entire vicinity. Therefore, it is advisable to wear comfortable walking shoes and stay hydrated. Elevators are available to take you to the observation deck, which is located at a height of 153 meters. From up there, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the Narmada River.

You do not need to purchase a separate ticket to explore the museum. At the base of the statue, at this museum you can discover the history related to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and how he made the united India dream possible. It is a must-visit gallery to delve into the life of this great freedom fighter.

My daughter has a deep love for pets, and this place was like a dream destination for her. The pet zone showcases exotic species of animals, some of which I had not seen in India before, such as Guinea pigs, hedgehogs, and raccoons. There were also other popular pets like rabbits and cats. It is a well-maintained park with a variety of pets, making it a must-visit place if you are traveling with kids.

Children Nutrition Park

  • Location – 5.6 KM From SOU
  • Timings – 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM

  • Suitable For Family with Childrens

This is a must-visit place, especially if you have young children in your group. It’s a first-of-its-kind park that places a strong emphasis on the importance of good nutrition and healthy eating habits. The highlight of the visit is the toy train ride that takes you from one station to another, with each station uniquely named to highlight a specific nutrition topic.

At the first station, they emphasize the importance of consuming seasonal fruits and vegetables. There was even a game where kids could sow seeds and complete the farming process. Similarly, each station featured a captivating, animated presentation on a nutrition-related topic, followed by an interactive game and a key takeaway. I will soon share a detailed blog about the Children Nutrition Park. In the meantime, here’s a video showcasing the activities covered in the nutrition park.

Final words

A day trip to the Statue of Unity may not be sufficient to fully explore all the attractions this place has to offer. However, within a day, you can comfortably visit a few attractions. It is advisable to plan your trip in a way that allows you to attend the laser show, which is held in the evening from 06:45 PM to 07:15 PM. The Statue of Unity entry ticket includes access to the laser show. Unfortunately, we could not attend this show during our visit due to the late hour and the need to cover the 60-kilometer journey to Club Mahindra Netrang. Perhaps next time!

Some other attractions that you can choose to explore are:

  • Valley of flowers
  • Jungle Safari
  • Butterfly garden
  • Cactus garden
  • Ekta Nursery
  • Dino Trail
  • Ekta Cruise

Next time, we plan to embark on a three-day trip to the Statue of Unity and secure accommodation nearby. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful experience to explore the Statue of Unity. It offers a plethora of attractions suitable for people of all age groups.

Hotel Gautam Lonavala – Food & Stay Review

Gautam Hotel Lonavala
Gautam Hotel Lonavala

Hotel Gautam Lonavala is a Rajasthani-themed palace resort located near the Lonavala bus stand. I discovered this resort from Instagram reels, where several vloggers highlighted the Udaipur vibes that one can experience at this hotel in Lonavala. Where they accurate in their claim of royal charm?  Well, here’s my unbiased review.

Hotel Gautam Lonavala – First impressions

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you see this picture?

Hotel Gautam Lonavala
Rajasthan styled hotel gautam in Lonavala

OMG! What a beauty… It feels just like Udaipur or some royal palace of Rajasthan. Yes, these thoughts clouded my mind too and hence, I decided to celebrate my birthday with my entire family, booking three rooms, at this resort.

Conveniently situated near the Lonavala market and bus stand, our initial excitement slightly waned as we parked our car outside. The exterior didn’t quite match the beauty as seen in the reels. Nevertheless, we entered the resort and the check in was smooth. Having made a partial payment online, we were asked for our ID proofs, and we settled the remaining payment during the check-in. Swiftly, one room was assigned, and the hotel staff escorted our luggage to our designated room.

As soon as we crossed the reception area, it felt blissful. Thankfully, the interior lived up to the descriptions shared in the reels. It felt dreamy, almost surreal. The resort is indeed beautiful and exudes a royal charm.

Hotel Gautam Lonavala – Most Instagram worthy hotel in Lonavala

Hotel Gautam Lonavala is undeniably the most Instagrammable hotel I have ever visited in Lonavala. The photos you click here can deceive anyone that you are in some exotic location in Rajasthan. But that was it. Beyond the Instagram worthy pictures, there was nothing to explore here. Let me honestly share what I liked and disliked about the resort.

What I liked about my stay

  1. The royal architecture (of course, it’s something to fall in love with).
  2. The room was decent (small but cozy!)
  3. The presence of a swimming pool (at least there was some activity for kids).
  4. Breakfast buffet (pure veg but good quality).

What I disliked about my stay

  1. Small property (not well-maintained). What you see in this picture is pretty much the resort. The photos might deceive you to believe it is something royal, but the property is not that well-maintained.
  2. The rooms had an unpleasant odour. Even after leaving the windows and doors open for a few minutes, the dampness on the walls and carpet, caused by the rain, persisted.
  3. The check-in was scheduled for 1 pm, but still it took them an hour to prepare the other two rooms that we had booked.
  4. There was no phone service available. Among the three rooms assigned to us, only one had a functional landline phone. Imagine, knocking on the next door every time to ask for any kind of room service.
  5. The swimming pool was not clean. Despite requesting the staff to clean it, no steps were taken.
  6. The marble stairs that led to the room became slippery due to the rain. Considering we had kids and a senior citizen with us, navigating those stairs felt somewhat risky.
  7. I found Gautam Lonavala tariff, approximately Rs. 8,000 per night for two people including breakfast, to be a bit on the higher side. Especially considering the limited amenities available, the cost seems high as compared to many other resorts in Lonavala that offers a wide range of amenities and a big breakfast buffet spread.
  8. There was no indoor gaming room or designated gaming zone, nor was there a garden on the premises. The only available play area was rather small and featured a few slides. These slides were also rendered unusable due to the rainy conditions. So, the kids in our group were rather bored at the resort.

Final words

Hotel Gautam Lonavala offers a picturesque resort experience that allows you to enjoy the maharaja vibes close to your city, if you are from Mumbai and Pune. For couples, it is a good stay option for a relaxing getaway to indulge in the royal atmosphere, click pictures, and make reels (that’s what most people were doing here!). However, for families with children, it might not be the most suitable choice. The hotel should consider investing in a game room to make it more suitable for kids, thus enhancing the overall family experience.

Club Mahindra Netrang Gujarat – Stay & Food Review

0
Club-Mahindra-Netrang-Gujarat
Club Mahindra Netrang is an ideal resort to explore the greens during monsoon season.

Club Mahindra Netrang Resort in Nandej is a blissful retreat for the mind and the body. It is a resort where you can enjoy the luxury and comfort of modern life along with the best of nature. Enveloped by pure nature, the monsoon is the best season to explore this beautiful forest resort. Throughout my stay, I was awed by the sounds of birds chirping joyfully during the day, and mornings felt peaceful waking up to the soulful sound of peacocks and peahens. They were abundant around the resort, and I could hear them at any time of the day. Luckily, on our trek to the lake close to the resort, we spotted a few peacocks too. Here’s an unbiased review of my stay at Club Mahindra Netrang, Gujarat.

Which is the nearest railway station to Club Mahindra Netrang?

The nearest railway station to Club Mahindra Netrang Resort is Ankleshwar, which is approximately 60 km away from the resort. If you are traveling from Mumbai or adjoining places, the best and most convenient way to reach the resort is by your personal vehicle. The distance from Mumbai to Netrang, Gujarat, is around 350 km, and it took us approximately eight hours to reach the resort with one break. However, it’s worth noting that during the monsoon season, some roads may be in bad condition due to the heavy rains, even on national highways.

Despite the road conditions, traveling by car is still the best and most affordable option for reaching Club Mahindra Netrang from Mumbai, considering the straight route. Alternatively, if you plan to travel by air, you can opt for Vadodara or Surat airports, which are both about 100 km away from the resort.

What Time Is Check-In & Checkout?

The check-in time at Club Mahindra Netrang Resort is from 2 pm, but since we arrived around 4 pm, we didn’t have to wait for long. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff promptly escorted us to our room. However, we encountered an issue with the telephone in the room, as it was not working. This inconvenience led to us having to shift to another room, which wasted some time that we could have otherwise used to relax after the long drive.

The check-out time was scheduled for 10 am. As we had a long drive back to Mumbai, we decided to leave around 9 am. Unfortunately, on our return journey, which was on a Sunday, we encountered traffic, and the journey took us more than 10 hours to reach Mumbai. In contrast, when we checked in on a Thursday, we didn’t face any traffic issues.

What Are Some of The Property Amenities at Club Mahindra Netrang Resort?

Club Mahindra Netrang resort in Gujarat may be compact compared to some other Club Mahindra resorts, but it offers all the amenities commonly found in other properties. It is a family-friendly resort with ample space to take leisurely walks amidst nature. The studio rooms at the resort are comfortable but compact. There was also an issue with the air conditioning during our stay, which was a bit inconvenient. The resort’s services were generally prompt, except for the evening hours when the room service seemed to be a bit slower.

Some of the top property amenities at Club Mahindra Netrang include:

  • Swimming pool
  • Spa
  • Gym
  • Happy Hub or fun zone, featuring a pastry counter.
  • Restaurant

What are some places to visit near Club Mahindra Netrang?

There are many places to visit near Club Mahindra Netrang. The top attraction is the Statue of Unity, which is approximately 60 km away from the resort. This iconic statue is a must-visit for anyone staying at the resort. Other notable attractions include the Ninai waterfall, Jain temples at Ankleshwar, Baldava dam (4 km), and Ghanikut waterfall (13 km). These natural wonders provide great opportunities to explore the beauty of the region.

Additionally, the resort’s proximity to a beautiful lake adds to its charm. You can enjoy trekking to the lake and even spot peacocks and exotic birds during the trail. Nature enthusiasts will undoubtedly appreciate the abundance of wildlife and scenic surroundings.

We visited the Statue of Unity and the lake close to Club Mahindra Netrang. Besides these, we didn’t venture out much and enjoyed the in-resort activities. Will soon share a detailed blog on the Statue of Unity and the attractions that can be explored in a day.

Is Club Mahindra Netrang a Good Place to Stay?

Club Mahindra Netrang is a wonderful resort that offers a memorable stay for families. The resort provides a serene and soothing environment where you can immerse yourself in nature during the day. In the afternoon, you can relax and have some fun at the pool, and in the evening, the Happy Hub offers a delightful time with its engaging activities. The fun activities planned at the Happy Hub were wonderful. My daughter enjoyed air hockey and various fun games at the recreational center.

One thing to note is that the resort is located far away from the market or city, which means there are no nearby restaurant options. The in-house restaurant is the only place you can eat once in the resort.

Club Mahindra Netrang – Food Review

Club Mahindra Netrang buffet was a big disappointment for us. Any holiday with Club Mahindra feels incomplete without the buffet meals. We selected the buffet breakfast and dinner options. The breakfast had a lot of variety but lacked taste. Besides, being in Gujarat, I expected the local cuisine like khandvi, etc., but they only had dhokla which was not tasty.

The buffet dinner did have the local cuisine, bajra ka rotla, and sabzi. But it was not up to the expectations. The chaat counter served yummy dishes. The starters were good, but the main dinner was not appealing.

All in all, it was the first time me and my family did not relish the food at Club Mahindra. Contrary, the food we ordered in-room was superb. We enjoyed the butter chicken and biryani combo. My suggestion is to go for à la carte food while at this resort instead of the buffet meals. The two-meal buffet combo cost around Rs. 1800 per person. While as a member, we did get good discounts on our à la carte meals.

Final words

Club Mahindra Netrang is an ideal resort to explore the greens during monsoon. The isolated lake that we explored exiting the staff gate and walking a few kilometers was a dream place. I can never forget the pure beauty and the stillness I felt here. Overall, a visit to this resort can bring you solitude. The best place to unwind, plan a trip to Club Mahindra Netrang resort to explore the Statue of Unity and other attractions. While on your way, we found a best place to halt and enjoy yummy food. Hotel Ahura Restaurant serves hot parsi meals and veg too.

Club Mahindra Tropicana Alibaug – Stay & Food review

Club Mahindra Tropicana Resort Alibaug
Club Mahindra Tropicana Resort Alibaug

Club Mahindra Tropicana Alibaug is an ideal weekend getaway for a relaxed family vacation by the sea. Located near the famed Kihim beach in Alibaug, this resort built on 8 acres of land paints the most scenic view in monsoons. The landscape of thick greens flanked by foggy mountains gives a soul soothing backdrop to this resort, such that I could not leave the resort even once during my stay. The luxurious rooms and this view (Ufff!) tied me to explore the beauty that Club Mahindra Tropicana Alibaug offers.

How To Get to Club Mahindra Tropicana Alibaug?

The best way to reach the resort is by car. From Mumbai, it is approximately 100 km or 2.5 hours’ drive. For the most part, the roads are well-maintained except at a few spots where the monsoons have caused havoc. The last five minutes of stretch leading up to the resort is not good. You can take a ferry from Mumbai and get down at Mandwa Jetty too. From there you can board a bus or autorickshaw to reach the resort.

What Time Is Check-In & Checkout?

The check-ins at Club Mahindra Alibaug start at 2 pm, just like most Club Mahindra resorts. Since this is a tie-up resort, and the staff was working from a makeshift reception, they were too occupied. Although we reached the resort before noon, we couldn’t get our room until 2.30 pm. So, we lost a lot of time waiting for our room to get ready. The checkout time is at 11 am. However, we checked out around 12 pm and the staff did not put any pressure on timely checkout. So that way it was relaxed and perhaps that was the reason our studio room took so much time to get ready. Aim to reach early by 11 am and spend some time at the Happy Hub or just relax in the pool while you wait for your room to get ready.

What Are Some of The Property Amenities at Club Mahindra Resort Alibaug?

Tropicana Resort and Spa, Alibaug is a Club Mahindra affiliate resort and has all the luxurious amenities that are available at most Club Mahindra resorts. We had booked a studio room and besides all the amenities, the view it offered was something to fall in love with. The room was comfy and luxurious.

Some of the top property amenities include:

  • Swimming pool
  • Happy hub with loads of indoor games and board games, including Scrabble, ludo, etc.
  • Library
  • Restaurant and bar services

Is Club Mahindra Resort Alibaug a Good Place to Stay?

Club Mahindra Resort Alibaug is the best place to stay. But if you are looking for a beach resort, then you will be disappointed as the resort is not on the beach. Kihim Beach is the closest beach within 3kms radius. Since we had already stayed for a night at a resort in Nagaon Beach, we didn’t venture out to explore the beaches or the forts.

Club Mahindra Tropicana Resort Alibaug
Club Mahindra Tropicana Resort Alibaug

The resort is best if you want to spend a relaxing time watching the rain and fog engulfing the hills. The swimming pool and restaurant buffets kept us busy for the most part. A stroll around the 8 acres of land, amazingly well-maintained is a nature trail to be enjoyed. So yes, club Mahindra Resort Alibaug is a wonderful resort for a relaxing and memorable stay with your family.

Club Mahindra Tropicana Alibaug – Food Review

Any vacation at Club Mahindra seems incomplete without the buffet meals. So, we took a combo of dinner and breakfast meals and relished a nice spread. The food quality and taste were awesome. Much better than the ala carte meal we ordered thanks to the late check-in. The cost of the ala carte meal was high and in comparison, the quantity was low.  In general, I have observed ordering in-room lunches or dinner usually costs high and falls low on expectations. The buffet dinner and breakfast spread on the contrary had a lot of variety. The cost for our combo buffet came around 1700rs per person, which was decent. Sharing the video of the buffet spread.

There was a bar too serving fancy drinks. The cost was of course high but given the ambience you can have a drink or too and chill near the pool.

Final words

Tropicana Resort Alibaug is a perfect resort for a laid-back family holiday to escape city life. From my experience, it is hard to get a booking here and most of the time the app shows waiting. So, even if you are getting a one-night stay, go for it. Just relax in the lap of nature, spend your leisure time swimming, or take a stroll around the marvellous hills. We didn’t venture out as the stay was short but thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I am going to plan another monsoon escapade here.

Varsoli beach is one of my most favorite beach in Alibaug as it is clean and less crowded. To discover more beaches to explore in Alibaug, read: Must visit beaches in Alibaug
