In the last week of 2024, we checked into this beautiful resort in Diveagar and fell in love with it. The rooms, the ambiance, the view from our master studio room, the indoor play zone, and most importantly, the cute caretaker dog – Jack – what more could one ask for? My daughter is in absolute awe of the hospitality and has fallen in love with Jack.
Situated in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra, this luxurious resort in Diveagar is surrounded by hills on one side and offers a distant view of the beach (which is about a 15-minute drive from the resort). The moment I stepped into the resort, I felt an instant calm taking over me, especially after seeing the peaceful ambiance at the reception. The aesthetics are so soothing that you feel the blissful, yogic vibes the moment you step foot in this place.

The reception area holds a rustic charm, showcasing prominent displays of our culture and traditions. From the books to the wall art, everything exuded the charm of a place in perfect harmony with the yogic philosophy of life. As a yoga sadhaka, I adored the shlokas that adorned the walls.
The second thing that set the mood just right for me was the collection of cute murals. The entire resort, along with each room, followed a theme based on the story of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse. Such wisdom in so few words, yet so much depth. Of course, I’ve already ordered a copy of the book and can’t wait to read it with my daughter.

Since we were three adults and a child, we chose the master studio room, and wow—it truly offered the best of everything. The view from the room was breathtaking, and the sheer size made it feel luxuriously spacious. The upper-level bedroom was a hit with my little one; it became her cozy haven for reading and enjoying her own space, away from the grown-ups.
From the upper deck, we could see the beach and waves stretching into the horizon. At night, it turned into the perfect spot for stargazing. Unfortunately, the skies during our two-night stay weren’t as starry as we’d hoped, but the experience was still wonderful.

I don’t know the name of the lake—it wasn’t mentioned anywhere—but it felt like a hidden gem, just a short trail from the resort. The journey to it was picturesque, led by the cutest guide, Jack, who cheerfully took us through the forest to this serene spot. When the lake came into view, I was speechless. Its stillness and beauty were captivating, offering a profound sense of peace and calm.
What made the moment even more special was the rarity of it all. Unlike the bustling Shrivardhan Beach, we visited the day before, this lake was ours alone. It felt like a private slice of paradise, untouched and pure.
The highlight, though, was Jack—our spirited guide and swimmer extraordinaire. Watching him glide effortlessly through the water as if it was his natural element, was a sight to behold. It reminded me of the deep connection we share with water, the way our bodies, composed of 70% water, instinctively respond to its presence. This lake calls for another staycation, not just to relive the serenity but to feel that profound connection once again.
Shree Suvarna Ganesh Temple
The Shree Suvarna Ganesh Temple was just a ten-minute drive from the resort. This beautiful temple houses a stunning idol of Lord Ganesha, intricately crafted from gold—a sight that exudes divinity and grace.
Outside the temple, we stumbled upon the most delicious Modaks. We couldn’t resist indulging in them on the spot and even packed some to take back home to Mumbai. At just Rs. 20 per Modak, they were not only heavenly in taste but also incredibly affordable.
Diveagar Beach
This beach is nothing short of a hidden treasure, offering a delightful mix of water sports and the mesmerizing sight of thousands of starfish dotting the shore. What truly stands out is the cleanliness of the beach and the peaceful vibe, a stark contrast to the bustling Shrivardhan Beach. We visited on a quiet Friday afternoon, which might explain the lack of crowds. I can’t say for sure if it’s this tranquil on weekends, but the timing certainly worked in our favor. If you’re planning to try out water sports, here’s a tip: don’t hesitate to bargain! You might just score yourself a fantastic deal, making the adventure even more rewarding.

Even at 4 pm in the evening, this outlet was serving food and it was the most delicious and fresh fish we had in Diveagar.
Shrivardhan Beach
Before checking in to Athang Resort, we spent an evening at Shrivardhan Beach. However, it wasn’t as clean as Diveagar Beach and had a much larger crowd. What I did enjoy here was the well-maintained promenade, perfect for a stroll while soaking in the evening breeze.
Shrivardhan Beach felt more commercial compared to Diveagar Beach. For those looking for a budget-friendly stay near this beach, JK Sea Palace is a good option. The property offers simple, affordable rooms priced at approximately ₹4,000 per night during peak season. While the resort is basic and average, it provides good value for the cost.

We visited during the peak season, which runs from December to February, so the cost was a bit on the higher side. We paid approximately 10K per night for three adults and one child. This included a complimentary breakfast buffet on both days. The breakfast spread offered a good variety of dishes, from poha and omelets to fruits, south Indian breakfast delicacies, and more. The spread was delicious. The restaurant was clean, though there’s room for improvement in this regard.

Athang Staycation Resort Diveagar offers a perfect weekend getaway from Mumbai and Pune to enjoy a relaxing beach holiday. Beach vacations in India are popular throughout the year. Whether it’s winter or the May holidays, beaches are often filled with tourists. However, the beaches in Diveagar towards the end of the year weren’t overcrowded, which made our visit special. Moreover, the beaches were clean, and our resort in Diveagar made this trip truly memorable.
The highlight of our trip was, of course, the resort – Athang Staycation. As someone who’s typically scared of dogs, I never imagined I could enjoy my stay at a resort with a dog. But Jack was always on his best behavior. He led us to the lake, and during our nighttime strolls, he accompanied us. I might need to plan another vacation here soon for the peaceful yogic vibes—and because my daughter is eager to meet Jack again.
