Devgad Beach is a pristine white sand beach situated in the beautiful town of Devgad in the Sindhudurg district. Devgad, famous for its Alphonso mangoes, is bestowed with natural beauty. In recent years, Devgad Beach has become quite popular with tourists in search of clean beaches and less crowded destinations.
Last week, my family and I visited our village in Rajapur, and that’s when I got the opportunity to explore this awesome beach. For me, the best highlight of this beach was the windmills that dot the skyline and add an intrinsic beauty to the shores.
A day trip to Devgad Beach is pure relaxation amid the lap of nature, clean waters, and the marvelous sight of windmills. Let us see the things you can explore here.
Devgad Beach, Ratnagiri
Located in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, this beach is more crowded during summer holidays as the tradition of visiting villages during school vacations is common in India. En route to this beach, we halted at Salaskar Chai, a famous tea franchise in this part of the town.
The beach is close to the Devgad bus stand, and the road leading up to it is well-maintained too. The moment I stepped onto this beach, I felt relief. The scorching heat and the over one-hour car drive to reach here were worth every minute. The beach is clean and paints a picture straight out of a wallpaper. The windmills that stand tall bordering the scenic beach are something I was awed to look at.
Don’t miss the breathtaking sunset to witness nature’s magnificent display of colors.
Devgad Windmill Garden
At a walking distance from Devgad Beach lies the one-of-its-kind windmill garden. We took the steps leading up to the garden from where the sunset view was mesmerizing. I was watching such huge windmills from so close for the first time in my life, and I could not take my eyes off them.
While there was a huge crowd here, even on a Tuesday, it didn’t deter our enthusiasm. The wait to click a perfect picture with the windmills and a heart shaped installation, as the sunset in the background. I mean, how many times in life does one experience this?
The entry point to this garden is beautiful too. There are no entry fees to visit the Devgad Windmill Garden. Make sure you reach here in time to catch the sunset that paints a beautiful picture of the beach and myriad colors in the sky.
Don’t forget to gorge on Bhelpuri and Golgappas in this garden. They were tasty and the shops were hygienic. There is a restroom here, but it was not clean.
You can also visit the historic Devgad Fort, situated a short trek from the beach. Unfortunately, it was getting dark, and we didn’t have the time to embark on this journey. But there’s always a next time.
Final words
Devgad beach is one of the best beaches in Malvan. So, if you are visiting your village, take the opportunity to explore this beach located on the Arabian sea coast. There are a few restaurants close to the beach where you can enjoy the flavors of authentic Malvani cuisine. The parking near the beach is ample.
A day trip to Devgad Beach and Windmill Garden promises a memorable experience and an unforgettable view of the sun and sky and everything that lies within.
