Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar Review: Stay, Food, and Top Experiences

For the Independence Day long weekend in 2025, we chose to head to Diveagar instead of the usual getaways like Karjat, Lonavala, or Alibaug, which are closer to Mumbai. The journey was adventurous, with unexpected events along the way, but the stay at Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar — a property located close to the beach — was fairly average.

With long weekends come the inevitable exodus from cities like Mumbai and Pune, along with traffic jams of epic proportions. While we didn’t plan months in advance, a week’s notice was just enough to find ourselves a decent resort. At 6 a.m., bags packed and spirits high, we hit the road before sunrise, hopeful of dodging traffic. But destiny had other plans.

The Road Trip Adventure

The journey went smoothly until we reached Karnala Bird Sanctuary, where we stopped at Welcome Restaurant for a delicious breakfast. Just ten minutes back on the road, however, our car broke down. Luckily, we managed to steer it to the side. After a round of calls to roadside assistance and several failed attempts to restart it, the car finally roared back to life after half an hour—only to break down again near Sahara Family Restaurant along Pen Road.

Fortunately, we managed to find a mechanic who, after some tinkering, got the car running well enough to take it to his workshop. We lost a good two hours there. After adding coolant and inspecting the engine, we were handed back the keys and hit the road again.

But our luck didn’t hold. The car gave up once more near Nagothane Station Road. That’s when a local mechanic finally pointed out the real issue: the radiator was damaged. And then it all clicked. Earlier in the morning, a dog had suddenly darted out of nowhere and collided with our bonnet. What seemed like a minor incident had caused the radiator damage—setting off the chain of breakdowns that had turned our road trip into an unplanned pitstop adventure.

Finally, we left the car with the mechanic and continued our journey to Cocohut Beach Resort, Diveagar, in an EECO. What began as a six-hour road trip at 6 a.m. turned into a 12-hour ordeal, and by the time we arrived at 6 p.m., we were thoroughly drained by the experience. Thankfully, we had found the right mechanic at the right time — I’m sharing his details below in case anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation.

Now, circling back to the main point — in this review, I’ll cover everything you need to know about our stay at Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar: from the rooms and food to the amenities and overall experience, and most importantly, whether or not it’s worth planning your stay there.

Overview of Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar

Cocohut Resort’s proximity to the beach makes it an appealing choice for anyone planning a stay in Diveagar. For us—especially since we were without our own vehicle—it turned out to be the perfect decision. While the Arabian Sea is just a short walk away, the resort doesn’t offer a sea view, which was a minor letdown.

That said, it’s a simple, no-frills place ideal for unwinding and recharging, thanks to its peaceful ambience. Surrounded by lush greenery, the resort reflects the natural beauty typical of Diveagar, particularly during the monsoon season. The raw village charm—with coconut husks lining the walkways—added a rustic touch. However, the use of plastic coverings in some areas did take away from the overall aesthetic.

Stay Experience at Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar

Check-in is officially at 1 PM, but even though we arrived late, the process was smooth. Within minutes, we were escorted to our rooms. The staff was polite and helpful, with the kitchen staff being particularly welcoming.

The rooms at Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar are spacious and come with all the basic amenities needed for a comfortable stay. However, cleanliness could definitely be improved. Perhaps due to the resort’s proximity to the beach, the rooms weren’t as clean as one would expect. Ours also had a leakage issue, which led to an unpleasant smell that lingered inside the room.

The interiors feature a mix of contemporary décor and natural elements, with wooden furniture and coastal accents giving it a rustic vibe. The room was equipped with an AC and TV, which were functional. Unfortunately, the bathroom left much to be desired—it wasn’t well-maintained and lacked basic hygiene standards.

Overall, while the room was cozy enough for a short stay, the resort could certainly raise the bar when it comes to cleanliness and upkeep.

Price Range

Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar offers a range of pricing options, making it suitable for both budget-conscious travellers and those seeking a slightly more premium experience. Room rates typically range from ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 per night, depending on the room category and the season. Since we visited during a long weekend, we paid around ₹6,500 for a basic room, which included a buffet breakfast.

Food and Dining at Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar

Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar features an in-house restaurant that serves a variety of dishes, with a strong emphasis on fresh seafood and local Maharashtrian delicacies. During our stay, we tried a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The Egg Thali and Bombil Fry were definite highlights—flavourful and well-cooked. However, the Fish Thali didn’t quite live up to expectations.

The breakfast buffet was decent, but since the resort was running at full capacity, the staff struggled to keep up with the demand. As a result, most items required a wait, which took away from the overall breakfast experience. Still, the food itself was tasty, even if the service was a bit slow.

One letdown was the absence of desserts on the menu. We were particularly hoping for some modaks, given that many local restaurants in Diveagar serve fresh, hot ones—but none were available at Cocohut.

That said, if you’re not into seafood, there are plenty of vegetarian options to choose from, including Paneer Tikka, Dal Tadka, and Khichdi.

Resort Amenities & Activities

Cocohut Beach Resort offers a handful of amenities and activities to keep both adults and kids engaged during the stay.

  • Swimming Pool:

The resort features a moderately sized swimming pool with a depth of around 5 feet. During our visit, we found it wasn’t very clean—likely due to the challenges of maintenance during the rainy season.

  • Indoor Gaming Area:

Located on the rooftop, the indoor games section includes a foosball table, table tennis, and a pool table. The rooftop also has a cozy seating area, perfect for enjoying drinks or dinner in the open air.

  • Direct Beach Access:

One of the standout features of the resort is its direct access to Diveagar Beach. Just a short walk from the property, it’s ideal for early morning strolls or unwinding by the shore in the evening.

  • Nearby Attractions: Suvarnaganesh Temple is just a ten-minute walk from the resort. While visiting, don’t miss the chance to try the delicious hot modaks available there for only ₹25 each—a local treat that’s well worth it!

Conclusion: Is Cocohut Beach Resort Diveagar Worth It?

Cocohut Beach Resort, Diveagar, offers a peaceful and rejuvenating getaway with a pleasant mix of comfort, tasty cuisine, and lush natural surroundings. However, if you’re seeking a luxurious holiday experience on the lines of Club Mahindra, this might not be the place for you. In that case you can explore Athang Staycation in Diveagar. The pricing felt a bit high, especially during the busy long weekend, but overall, the food, service, and location made up for it. We recommend it for travellers who want to explore the charm of Diveagar Beach while enjoying a simple, relaxing stay.
