Sunset at MTDC Resort, Malshej Ghat

MTDC Resort Malshej Ghat is where we spent our last holiday of 2025. MTDC Resort bookings are known to be difficult — especially during the peak season. Some might even say it’s impossible. But believe it or not, I managed to book my stay just two days in advance and got a valley view room, that too close to 31st December. A miracle, isn’t it?

I wrapped up 2025 with a three-night stay at MTDC Resort, Malshej Ghat, and honestly, it felt like the perfect ending to a beautiful year.

How to Book Your Stay at an MTDC Resort

Booking an MTDC resort stay is often considered cumbersome — and initially, I thought so too. I started by installing the MTDC mobile app, but within minutes, I realised it was extremely user-unfriendly. Nothing worked smoothly, and I ended up uninstalling it almost immediately.

Next, I tried browsing the MTDC website on my phone. While it allowed me to check different MTDC resorts across Maharashtra, the navigation wasn’t seamless.

Finally, I opened the official MTDC website on my laptop. And that made all the difference. Browsing on a laptop is far simpler and smoother. My first preference was MTDC Ganpatipule, but as expected, it was fully booked. I checked a few other properties before finally narrowing down to MTDC Resort, Malshej Ghat.

We wanted a destination closer to Mumbai, and Malshej Ghat is roughly a 3-hour drive. To my surprise, rooms were available, which felt almost suspicious at first. I got my answer just a few kilometres before reaching the resort.

What are MTDC Resort Malshej Ghat Room Prices

MTDC Malshej Ghat room prices vary depending on the season and room category:

  • Deluxe Non-AC Room: approx. ₹2,200 per night
  • Valley View Non-AC Suite: approx. ₹4,100 per night
  • Cottage Room: approx. ₹3,400 per night

We were four people, so with extra bedding, the tariff increased slightly.

You can book MTDC Malshej Ghat cottage room as well. But if budget is not a constraint, I highly recommend booking the MTDC Malshej Ghat Valley View rooms. They sit right in the middle of the valley and feel absolutely surreal and dreamy. You won’t regret it.

✔️ Breakfast is included in the room tariff

✔️ Lunch and dinner are available at the in-house restaurant at affordable prices

There are several dhabas as well, but most of them were not operational. However, you can choose to eat at other local resort hotels, as we did at Blu Water Resort, Malshej, which is a popular lakeside resort. The restaurant location is dreamy, and while the food is a little expensive, the quality is far better than MTDC food.

How to Reach MTDC Resort Malshej Ghat

MTDC Resort, Malshej Ghat is located in the Western Ghats and is most popular during the monsoon season, thanks to waterfalls, greenery, trekking trails, and flamingos. Winters are equally beautiful, with pleasant weather and stunning mountain views.

From Mumbai

  • Distance: approx. 130 km
  • The route includes a stretch of Samruddhi Mahamarg
  • The last 5 km leading to the resort is under construction

The last 5 km leading up to the resort is completely under construction. One side of the road was being built, while the other side was also dug up — which basically means there was no proper road at all. The stretch was extremely rough, and honestly, we felt our car might break down before reaching the resort. This poor road condition is most likely the reason why rooms were still available despite it being peak season.

From Pune

  • Distance: approx. 140–165 km
  • Roads are generally good except for the same 5 km construction stretch

By Train

  • Nearest railway station: Kalyan Junction (80–85 km away)
  • From Kalyan, taxis and buses are available to Malshej Ghat

We were lucky enough to avoid traffic both ways, even while returning on 31st December, which made our vacation end on a very happy note.

MTDC Malshej Ghat Resort Review (Stay, Rooms & Amenities)

I am absolutely in love with the location of MTDC Resort, Malshej Ghat. It is surrounded by mountains and nestled deep inside a valley. This, I feel, is the biggest USP of MTDC properties.

Rooms

The room was spacious, comfortable, and the valley view was breathtaking. Special mention to the washroom:

  • 24×7 hot water (a blessing during winters)
  • Extremely clean — much better than what I’ve experienced at other MTDC properties

Full marks for the room experience.

Amenities

The resort has:

  • A large central open area
  • Giant chessboard
  • Garden with slides and swings for kids
  • Open spaces for cricket and badminton
  • Walking paths perfect for post-meal strolls under a starry sky

This central area is truly the highlight of the property.

Food Review: Flamingo Restaurant, MTDC Resort Malshej Ghat

The Flamingo Restaurant did not disappoint.

  • Food was tasty and freshly prepared
  • Menu options were limited
  • Spice levels were adjusted on request

Breakfast was simple but satisfying, and meals were reasonably priced.

Service, Staff & Check-in Experience

The resort runs with lean manpower, and the telephone in our room was non-functional. However, the reception was close by, and walking up to them solved any issue quickly. Housekeeping was punctual and efficient — rooms were cleaned daily without reminders.

MTDC Malshej Ghat Check-in & Check-out Timings

  • Check-in: 11:00 AM
  • Check-out: 10:00 AM

We didn’t have to request a late check-out, and the staff was courteous and accommodating.

    • Lenyadri Caves & Girijatmaj Temple (Ashtavinayak)
    • Ozar Vighnahar Ganapati Temple

One day, we trekked up to the Shivneri fort, which is the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The next day, we visited two Ashtavinayak temples: Lenyadri Caves & Girijatmaj Temple, as well as Ozar Vighnahar Ganapati Temple. I’ll be sharing detailed blogs on these places separately.

Final Verdict: Is MTDC Resort Malshej Ghat Worth Staying At?

MTDC Resort, Malshej Ghat, is a beautiful, value-for-money property that you should visit at least once. Monsoon would be ideal once the road work is complete, but winters are equally magical with golden sunsets and crisp mountain air. I have earlier visited MTDC Koyna property and that too was located on a beautiful hill. So, I guess location is the biggest USP for MTDCs.

If you’re looking for:

  • A peaceful mountain stay
  • Scenic valley views
  • Affordable government-run resort
  • Clean rooms and good food

MTDC Resort Malshej Ghat is absolutely worth it.
